Our daily wildlife expeditions have blazed the trail in wildlife watching for over thirty years here and they are a must for any wildlife enthusiast visiting Scotland at any time of year.

The expeditions are led by one of Scotland's top wildlife guides, David Woodhouse. In fact David has been conducting Expeditions longer than any other wildlife guide in Britain.

The Island of Mull is one of the most diverse wildlife destinations in the world and your trip is designed to maximise your chances of seeing golden eagles, otters, white tailed sea eagles, porpoise, hen harriers and a whole host of fascinating Hebridean wildlife. You will not only see our wonderful creatures in their spectacular natural habitats but you will also learn how to look and where to look for them. We pass on our knowledge about the significance of weather patterns, tides and wind direction etc when wildlife watching in the Hebrides. You will also learn about other sites around Scotland where you can see more of Scotland's wild and wonderful creatures.

What we would underline is that the weather is not a factor regarding the day out. In fact eagles rather enjoy a wild day and otters are probably best seen on a drizzly day. Cetaceans are more easily seen on a calm grey day etc etc. However this is where local knowledge is invaluable because we can use the ever changing weather patterns to our advantage.

We have a new eco friendly home and base which is situated in our national scenic area on the Islands beautiful west coast and you can start your day from there if you are staying in the immediate area, or we can be pick you up on the way, or at the Fishnish Ferry point if you are staying on the (Morvern/Ardnamuchan) mainland, or at our main meeting point at Craignure 11:00 where we meet people off the 10:05 ferry from Oban. Oban visitors are returned to Craignure to catch the 17:10 ferry and Fishnish to Lochaline visitors are dropped off for an appropriate ferry thereafter.

There are no set routes for the expeditions as the weather and current wildlife hotspots dictate where we go on the day. We provide binoculars, maps and field guides, however we would strongly recommend that you bring your own binoculars if possible as familiarity with ones own gear can help enormously. We have a top of the range Swarovski telescope to enhance your wildlife sighting's.

Your Guide

Your guide David Woodhouse has lived on Mull for over thirty years. He moved here with his wife Joy after living and working in North Wales as a graphic designer. Moving to Mull fuelled David’s lifetime interest in the natural environment and he now spearheads many tourism and environment initiatives that are happening throughout Scotland. He is a fervent supporter of national parks and eco tourism as a way forward for rural communities that live alongside spectacular wildlife. He is passionate about the Island of Mull and its welfare.

David is as enthusiastic a wildlife guide as you could possibly wish to meet and he is insistent on passing on his knowledge and wildlife awareness to others. All visitors return from their expedition richer and keener than when they began their journey.
